How we verify every batch

Inside the third-party HPLC and mass-spectrometry workflow behind every Certificate of Analysis.

6 July 2026 · 6 min

Every production lot is sampled before release. The sample travels to an independent laboratory that has no commercial relationship with our fill line, and two analyses are run: identity and purity.

Identity: mass spectrometry

Mass spectrometry answers a single question: is this molecule the one on the label? The instrument ionises the sample and measures the mass-to-charge ratio of the fragments, producing a mass that must match the theoretical mass of the target compound within a tight tolerance.

This matters more than it sounds. Many research peptides differ from one another by a handful of amino acids, and several are visually identical in solution. Identity confirmation is the only step that distinguishes them with certainty.

Purity: high-performance liquid chromatography

HPLC separates a sample into its constituents by pushing it through a column under pressure. Different molecules travel at different speeds, so the detector at the far end sees them arrive as a series of peaks.

The main peak is the target compound. Everything else is an impurity: related peptides, truncated sequences, residual synthesis reagents. Purity is the area of the main peak expressed as a percentage of the total. Our release threshold is a target of 99 percent or higher.

Release and traceability

Only when both results clear their thresholds is a batch released for sale. The certificate is then filed under the batch number printed on every pen from that lot.

That linkage is the part worth insisting on. A certificate that is not tied to a batch number tells you what some material was once measured at, not what is in the pen in your hand. Ours stays on file for as long as the batch is in circulation, and we will send it on request.
